this is what happen when....

This is the junction thats giving people on our side of Brunei so much grief. There should abe a sign here that says "Jam starts here!". The light just turns red too fast.

btw, can you spot the police women? They're there to ease traffic flow. They do a good job. But then, if the traffic lights are efficient in the first place, we wouldn't be needing those fine police ladies now would we?

How many people remember this Masjid? It started as a 'gift' to His Majesty but ended up as unfinished business. The brains behind the idea had their good intentions but they got over ambitious and ended up coming short on the funds. Not sure if thats settled now. I hope it is. I dont quite like the idea of a masjid that is still owing money. Halal ka tu?

Another brain had the idea of presenting a gift to His Majesty for HM's 60th birthday. Its sitting at the 'tambing' area, by Kampong Air. Its a gift by the Brunei Business Community (?) and it should be so, and not claimed by individuals. Anyway, what will happen in 10 years, when HM turns 70? Another 'gift'?

We pass by this row of houses everyday on our way home. It looks amazing and weird. So many roofs. Imagine living in one of these houses. Must be leaks everywhere. hehehe. An architect once told me that building roofs like these are expensive. Too many structures.

I like looking at houses. Especially their roofs. Tells a lot about the owners who built them. I have seen this big house with real elaborately designed roofs, but turned out butt ugly!! Damn. Why on why??!

New shophouses

Theres a lot of construction work right now in Brunei. Especially shophouses being built. Its a good sign. Hopefully soon we get better shops and items to buy in Brunei, not just the cheap made-in-china knock-off stuff that we are increasingly getting nowadays. Oh and restaurants, we need better ones. Where is Burger King??? Where are u???

Street lighting

Has anybody noticed the beautiful streetlights we have in Bandar. They look sooooo grand. And they light up pretty bright too. Makes the main road looks festive. Should change all street lights to that.

Hmmm royal wedding coming up soon. Must be the reason workmen doing up the roads and sprucing up the town.

The Monument

Its finally completed. In time for this year's celebrations. It looks a bit awkward. Hard to photograph. Not quite like the Singapore Merlion huh? But it looks great nonetheless..

I'm still not quite sure what it represents...

Colour vs BW

I'm playing with colour and B&W. I like B&W photos. Looks more dramatic to me. I took the pics below in Sg Kedayan. What does anybody else think?

Fishing boats

We're regulars at Jerudong. Its calming there sitting during sunsets. A few weeks ago, lots of boats going to sea. Late afternoon, they come up, and we see this bunch of boats just lined up there, by the market. Looked interesting.

Very colourful..

Belalong, Temburong.

We went to belalong some time ago. Violet took her camera along. The pics show our Temuai journey to the Forestry Centre in Belalong. It was a fun ride. The water level that day was low so our boatmen had some difficulty guiding the temuais along.

Halfway, saw these group of girls in the river. Waters nice and cool. Great for a dip..

The OBBS in Belalong

If anybody has a chance to go to Belalong, go. And bring your camera.

Billionth Barrel Monument

V took this shot recently. Moody..

Masjid SOAS

We love the beach. Go to one every weekend. Sunday we went to Serasa and Muara. Lots of folks there. Lots of people having picnics. Its great to see so many people relaxing and having fun. Took a few pics at Serasa.

This structure has been there for some time now. It looks messy. It looks interesting.

And fishing..a great Brunei pastime. Everyones fishing.

Some pics from the recent Radio Brunei Golden Jubilee Gala night. Everyone was dressed to thrill...except that one guy who was wearing a "I'm full of" shirt.

Was she wearing green slippers..??

This child was playing on his own, oblivious to everyone around him. He was running everywhere and climbing everything.

Violet took these pics during the recent Pameran Jubilee Emas Radio Brunei. They're t-shirts worn by visitors to the exhibition. Had some trouble taking the pics...many people shy lah to have their pics taken. Had to tell them we're not showing any faces.. I especially love the Elvis..

I was wondering how old the Awang Budiman t-shirt is...

Dune buggy ride

At Serasa yesterday. I wonder whos having more fun..

What does this building remind you of. My kid calls it the Transformers building..

Flower pots..?

Funny little things these. They're like little pots where you can grow grass (?) on them. Looks cute tho.

Violet took this pic. Surfers in Muara beach..??

Was in Wasan with my folks. The padi farms. Its not the season yet so everythings quiet and looks messy. Saw this BMW..

My folks told me during the padi season, especially during mengatam, this place would be beautiful and golden..

Was hanging around at the RBA Sports complex last Friday, while watching some people running around the running track. Happy to see so many people exercising. I saw these three little people and took their pic. I thought they looked cute.

Taekwondo for litte ones

Some pics taken lastnyte at the Taekwondo grading exercise for white belts. I went there to see and was pleasantly surprised to see little ones, some so young, take to TaeKwonDo with so much gusto and enthusiasm. Found out most are from the JKBS Taekwondo scheme at the Menglait complex.

I quite like this little one

The scheme is run free by JKBS. White belts practice every Friday afternoons. Its open to under 18s. If you'r interested or your kids are interested, just turn up Friday afternoon in your Taekwondo outfit and register (just bring your ic/birth cert). You start right away. Grading sessions are held every 3 months.

my view

These are Violet's pics from our Sunday drive-around. We stopped at a few places that we ourselves are not sure about. These pics were taken somewhere around the place where the Authorities "melihat anak bulan" along the Muara-Tutong Highway (Bukit Shahbandar).

We especially liked the pitcher plants. The watch-tower were unfortunately locked. Would have been nice to keep it open for visitors. You get a great view from there. Pity its only open twice a year just to 'melihat anak bulan'.
